In 2007, when Jason Wu was only 23, his inaugural Spring collection floated down the runway—with airy tulle and Degas dresses that had the air, grace, and beauty reminiscent of a prima ballerina. Life comes full circle when, this spring, on March 20, the San Francisco Ballet Auxiliary and Sam Malouf Authentic Luxury present Jason Wu’s exclusive show for the fashion (and ballet) lovers of the Bay Area.
The event kicks off with a reception, where guests will enter the historical Bently Reserve, once The Old Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco building, and walk amongst its grandeur and rich history. Wu’s feminine and bold Fall 2019 collection will then grace the runway. There will also be a special archival collection on display for fashion lovers to swoon over and draw future style inspiration from. A post-show reception follows.
Guests who purchase VIP tickets to this magical evening will also join Wu for an intimate dinner on March 19 at interior designer Ken Fulk’s SoMa studio, The Magic Factory—making this the perfect opportunity to share a creative space with Wu, whose accolades range from being a finalist in the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in 2008 to winning the Swarovski Award for Womenswear at the CFDA Fashion Awards in 2010. Over the years, he has dressed some amazing leading ladies—from Mandy Moore, who wore a sophisticated black crepe, diamond-embellished gown as she accepted this year’s SAG Award for Best Ensemble in a Drama Series for This is Us, to Gemma Chan, who stood amongst her Crazy Rich Asians co-stars in a whimsical custom-made floral gown to accept this year’s Critics Choice Award for Best Comedy.
Andi Valo-Espina will serve as the San Francisco Ballet Auxiliary Fashion Show Chair. Proceeds benefit San Francisco Ballet initiatives, including new works, scholarships for San Francisco Ballet School students, and community outreach programs.
