Building Dreams

In 1989, Kevin Costner’s character in Field of Dreams uttered one of the most memorable lines in movie history by declaring, “If you build it, they will come.” Fast-forward to 2019, and Steve Glenn is helping to make those words a reality. Glenn is the Founder and CEO of Plant Prefab, a California company whose mantra is, “Custom homes, sensibly built.”

Under Glenn’s leadership, 3-year-old Plant Prefab has become the country’s first prefabricated home factory dedicated to sustainable construction, materials, and operations. From its 62,000-square-foot facility in Rialto, the firm manufactures patented custom, single, and multi-family homes. These homes are popular as an efficient, low-cost, and environmentally-friendly alternative to the construction model employed by traditional contractors.

“We’re currently installing a new line of homes, and the company is the busiest we’ve ever been.”

“My first love was architecture,” Glenn says. “As a kid, I had Lego blocks and books on Frank Lloyd Wright.” Surveying current industry trends, he notes that, “More than ever, customers care about responsible building construction.” LivingHomes, which is the firm’s design studio, has launched a line of Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU’s) that can be built within one month. Thanks to recent legislation, demand for such structures in the Golden State is expected to increase exponentially.

For Ivy League graduate Glenn, it’s just the latest chapter in a spectacular career. His resume includes a successful spell managing the development of a $220 million program in Mozambique for the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative, and co-founding a trailblazing software company that was subsequently bought by Apple.

This year promises to be Plant Prefab’s most successful ever. “We’re currently installing a new line of homes, and the company is the busiest we’ve ever been,” Glenn shares. Clearly, his pioneering firm is built to last!
