A love match between Chelsea (daughter of Bruce and Catherine Garrett) and Morgan (son of Alexander and Christine MacBride) seemed destined to be—even before they were born. Chelsea relates, “Our grandparents were great friends and built homes near one another on the same lake. And it was at this lake that we first met as toddlers. Every summer we would visit our grandparents, and being roughly the same age and only seven houses apart, our parents encouraged us to play together.”
As the two grew up and headed off for college (Chelsea earned a degree in finance from the University of San Diego and Morgan attended USC and Northwestern School of Law), the trips to the lake became far less frequent and they lost touch.
Fast-forward to 2017, when Morgan (who grew up in Menlo Park) saw Chelsea (who hails from Diablo) for the first time in many years at his brother’s wedding and was taken by everything about her. A courtship ensued where Morgan would fly up from L.A. each weekend to see Chelsea. He proposed on a special getaway to Napa.
The couple was married at Nativity Church in Menlo Park. A reception followed at a stunning private estate in Woodside. “Morgan always wanted to get married in Woodside,” Chelsea says. “His father grew up there and his grandparents were important members of the community. Morgan’s parents were also married in Woodside at his grandparents’ home.”
To bring their elegant vision to life, the couple enlisted the talents of Jeffrey Adair, owner of J Floral Art in Menlo Park, to create arrangements and bouquets for Chelsea’s bridal shower at the Menlo Circus Club, the rehearsal dinner at The Village Pub, and the wedding. Following a honeymoon on Hawaii’s Big Island, the couple is living in San Mateo’s Baywood neighborhood.
