On January 23, society swans from Dede Wilsey to Komal Shah landed at City Hall to celebrate the San Francisco Ballet’s glittery opening night gala, This Is Passion. Proceeds from the black-tie fundraiser, chaired by Claire Stewart Kostic, will support the ballet’s artistic endeavors, student scholarships and community education programs. Riccardo Benavides’ design, a blend of romance and technology, did not disappoint. Upon entrance, gala-goers could sashay through a neon promenade bordered by large-screen projections of leaping ballerinas. Later, at the gala performance, the ballet’s board of trustees presented Wilsey with the Lew Christensen Medal in tribute to her work on behalf of the organization. Spotted in the crowd: Sonya Molodetskaya, Lillian Phan, Charlotte Shultz, Kelsey Lamond, Suzy Kellems Dominik, Bayha Murad and Deepa Pakianathan.
