‘Formed and Fired: Contemporary American Ceramics’
March 12, 2020–September 28, 2020
A new show coming to the Anderson Collection’s Wisch Family Gallery focuses on clay and the myriad ways the medium can be used for individual expression. Formed and Fired: Contemporary American Ceramics will feature works by groundbreaking artists Kathy Butterly, Kahlil Robert Irving, Simone Leigh and Brie Ruais. Eleven pieces will be on view, among them Butterly’s biomorphic vessels and a terra-cotta bust by Leigh. Upper-level members of the museum get an extra-special treat: invitation to an opening reception that includes a talk with Irving, whose work is also currently part of the Whitney Museum’s Making Knowing: Craft in Art, 1950-2019. The Anderson exhibition runs through September 28. anderson.stanford.edu
