Michelle Notkin Rosen and Shelby Notkin

When Michelle Notkin Rosen’s son Zach was diagnosed with type-1 diabetes (T1D) as a 10-month-old baby in 1996, the family was quite overwhelmed with the minute-by-minute responsibilities of managing T1D and keeping Zach alive. Being an advocate and finding a cure were just as important. So, Michelle and Zach’s dad both became involved in the JDRF Los Angeles Walk for a Cure and Zach’s grandparents, Shelby and Melinda, did the same in San Francisco. Michelle has spent the past 22 years since Zach’s diagnosis educating family, friends, teachers, school personnel, and camp counselors about the delicate balance of keeping Zach healthy and safe while helping him become more independent in managing his diabetes. Zach is now a senior at North Carolina State University in Raleigh.

Michelle (who now resides in Hillsborough) and her father Shelby will be honored with the Impact Award for their exceptional commitment to the JDRF mission to accelerate life-changing breakthroughs to cure, treat, and prevent T1D and its com- plications. The father-daughter duo will receive their award at the 2019 JDRF Greater Bay Area Chapter’s Fifth Annual Tee to Table fundraiser on March 22 at The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay. This event brings together prominent business leaders and families from all around the Bay Area to network and fundraise.

Tee to Table features a golf scramble on the Ocean Course and a 24-person round-robin tennis tournament, followed by cocktails, a gourmet dinner, spectacular live auction, and dancing to Notorious. The extraordinary Patty Sue Mozart will serve as the Tee to Table chair for the third year in a row. Last year, the sold-out event raised more than $1,100,000.

JDRF is the leading global organization funding T1D research, and has invested over $2.2 billion in research funding since its inception.
