The acclaimed actress was honored by the San Francisco International Film Festival for her work as a stellar performer who can create a pantheon of characters across multiple genres. Her latest, Tully, tells the story of an overwhelmed mother of three with unflinching honesty. “It’s my second collaboration with [director] Jason Reitman and [writer] Diablo Cody, and every time I’m around them, it’s quite magical,” she told the Gazette, before a Q&A to a packed house at the Castro. Peering out into the crowd of fans and film buffs, Theron remarked that San Franciscans were “her people.”
