Parties: A Royale Occasion

The scene at the Oakland Scottish Rite Center was swinging on June 18 as Gunhild Carling — Sweden’s Queen of Swing — led the California Symphony and its supporters, dressed in 1920s vintage glam, at Symphony Royale.

Cocktails with California Symphony music director Donato Cabrera kicked off the revel, followed by a McCalls threecourse dinner, live auction, performances and dancing in the center’s historic ballroom. The celebration heralded the finale of the symphony’s 2021–22 season and raised $120K to support its professional musicians and free education programs for students.

“The California Symphony end-of-season special event is always great fun from start to finish,” said supporter Shari Wald. “It’s also a wonderful way to support an orchestra that’s doing great things for our community.”
